July Digital Marketing News

1. TikTok led the pack in Q2 2022 when it came to time spent on social media, with an average of 95 mins per day globally. This was more than 4 times the average duration spent on Snapchat (21 mins), over 3 times the time spent on Twitter (29 mins), and nearly twice as much as on Facebook and Instagram.

2. TikTok would roll out a ranking system called “Content Levels” – organize content based on “thematic maturity”, aimed at preventing inappropriate content from reaching teenage users in the coming weeks

3. Facebook’s new test allows people to have up to 5 profiles. As part of the test, Facebook users will have the ability to create 4 more additional profiles tied to their original account.

4. Instagram will now feed all video uploads into Reels, whether you want them or not. New video posts shorter than 15 mins will be shared as reels. Videos that were posted prior to this change will remain as videos and won’t become reels.

This platform’s also added a range of new creative tools for Reels as it doubles, and triples down on the short video format.

5. Meta claims its apps like Facebook and Instagram drive ‘52% higher total ROI’ than other channels according to new research by Nielsen, Nepa, and GfK – commissioned by Meta.

6. Amazon is taking legal action against “bad actors” running Facebook groups offering free goods or money in exchange for fake reviews. According to the BBC, Amazon has identified more than 10,000 such groups, which are generating fake reviews on Amazon marketplaces across the UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Japan.

7. Huawei launches a ride-hailing app, updates the OS, and comes with its HarmonyOS.

8. Excellent campaigns that break the stereotype “women’s physiology is something sensitive and embarrassing”:

  • Womb Stories by Bodyform
  • The Truth, Undressed by Canesten
  • Derail Sexism by Dame Products
  • Leaks Happen by Elvie
  • Neighbours by Vagina Museum

It is expected to quickly become a global marketing trend in the near future.

9. PepsiCo won big at Cannes Lions 2022 through “Better With Pepsi” campaign with 4 Lions (including 2 Gold Lions in Food & Drink).

10. Fast-food Giants including KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell enter The Metaverse with Virtual Food and Restaurants.

11. Heineken launched its new beer in the Metaverse last month — where it couldn’t be tasted. Keeping following the trend but with a different unique campaign style, the stunt showed that Heineken wasn’t afraid to poke fun at itself, as well as at the metaverse. It attracted 1.7 billion impressions and took 4 Lions, including Silver in the Brand Experience & Activation Lions.

12. Playboy also announced plans to open a Virtual Mansion in metaverse with a message, bringing to life some of its intellectual property in the virtual world that can be utilized by anyone with an Internet connection.

There’s no doubt that these types of advertising strategies contribute to boosting the Metaverse – a powerful marketing trend that is predicted to explode in the coming years.

13. Netflix names Microsoft as a partner for a new consumer subscription plan. Previously, this company was reportedly interviewing potential partners over the past several months, including Google and Comcast. Finally, a partnership with Microsoft was seen as the most ideal for both companies as unlike Google and Comcast, Microsoft does not have any streaming service or content platform.

14. Emojipedia’s on the way to updating 31+ new emojis this September. Three new shades of heart have been introduced – light blue, pink, and grey – as well as a smattering of animals, vegetables in the form of peas and ginger, an afro comb, and cultural artifacts like maracas and a wooden flute.
